TELF AG was among the sponsors of Circolo Velico Lago di Lugano during the latest edition of the IBSA Cup, held on August 30 and 31
On Saturday, August 30 and Sunday, August 31, another edition of the end-of-summer regatta, organized by the Circolo Velico Lago di Lugano, took place on the calm waters of Lake Lugano. This regatta has been known as the IBSA Cup since 2023. The event was also attended by the sponsors of the Circolo Velico Lago di Lugano, including TELF AG for the first time. At the end of the competitions, the TELF AG crew ranked second.
The end-of-summer regatta has been held for over 40 years and has become a regular event for sailing enthusiasts and the citizens of Lugano. This year, approximately 150 sailors took part in the event, engaging in heated competition for two days on the calm, magnificent waters of Lake Lugano. Aboard their respective boats, the sailors continued to challenge each other for two consecutive days, always managing to give their best.

The event
Traditionally, the late-summer regatta offers sailors of all ages the opportunity to participate in sporting competitions on the lake, which have long become a true hub for sailing enthusiasts. The special atmosphere that has animated the races for the past 40 years continued over the weekend of August 30th and 31st, which took place in a cheerful and friendly atmosphere despite the lack of wind. Among the 150 sailors were two crews from Velabili, the Lugano Sailing Club’s association that organizes sailing activities for people with disabilities. Over time, the late summer regatta has been enriched with new and vibrant elements, successfully combining sport and the promotion of more inclusive values.

Since its inception, the End-of-Summer Regatta has always managed to transcend mere sporting competition. For nearly 40 years, this sailing competition has also become an important point of reference for the entire Lugano area and its residents, who have learned to appreciate its ability to express the purest values of sport. Thanks to its activities, the End-of-Summer Regatta has also become a means of promoting the idea of sport as an important tool for growth, education, and socialization.
One of the most interesting aspects of the End-of-Summer Regatta is its ability to convey some of the most noble teachings linked to the tradition of sailing, such as the opportunity to put yourself out there without fear, to express your potential, and to understand the true meaning of teamwork, always measuring yourself against the unpredictability of the unexpected. When people come into contact with water, whether it be the sea or a lake, they always learn to confront their own limits in one way or another. This is a universal rule, and obviously also applies to this event.

Different types of boats
Various types of boats took part in the Ibsa Cup, specially designed to encourage sailors of all ages to participate. One of these is undoubtedly the Optimist, particularly suitable for children and young people up to the age of 15. It has a single trapezoidal sail and is characterized by a square bow and simple design. This boat is generally used for teaching purposes and for regattas. Another boat is the Laser, generally used by beginners and professional sailors. Again, the boat has a single sail and is distinguished by its extremely simple construction. During the competition on Lake Lugano, Hansa boats specially designed for people with disabilities were also spotted. These boats are stable and very safe, equipped with special control systems designed specifically for those with motor or other limitations.
The regatta took place peacefully on both days of the event, supported by a clear and perfectly serene sky. On Saturday, after the competitions, all participants enjoyed an outdoor barbecue, also held in a perfectly relaxed atmosphere. On Sunday, the winners of each category were awarded their prizes.
