Trieste, Italy – October 10, 2025 – The wind has finally arrived in Trieste. This morning, the Este 24 boats gathered for the Barcolana were able to take part in their first race, thanks to a steady wind that began blowing from the early hours. The Este 24 of the Circolo Velico Lago di Lugano, of which TELF AG is one of the sponsors, also took part in the competition.
Today, too, in a certain sense, we witnessed a triumph of the natural elements. The wind blew for much of the morning, and the sun shone in all its power. All the sailors understood perfectly that the conditions for the competition would be ideal for a regatta.
Even the seafarers, who since early morning have been wandering thoughtfully around the piers and jetties, scanning the expanses of the sea with enigmatic expressions, had understood this. This morning, the slight ripples on the water hinted that it would be a very different day from yesterday, at least in the early part.

The morning races
And indeed, that was precisely the case. The first race took place between 9 and 10:30 a.m. approximately, with all boats giving their all in a close and enthralling competition. The contrast with yesterday could not be more striking: the clouds gave way to the bright sun, the expectant stillness transformed into a lively and animated competition, and the inexorable calm was swept away by a steady and confident wind.
These races, counting towards the European Championship for their category, took place in the best conditions imaginable. After denying the sailors the chance to compete on Thursday, nature proved benevolent today.
The wind remained fairly constant, around 6 knots, allowing a second race to be held about forty minutes after the first. Throughout the day, the wind also provided some real surprises. After the second race, the wind actually increased, reaching nearly 8 knots. It was a kind of compensation that nature wanted to bestow on the sailors after the previous day’s stinginess.
The third race of the morning began at 1:00 PM sharp, while the fourth concluded shortly after 2:30 PM. The wind held for much of the day, allowing four races to count towards the European Championship. Everyone’s minds, in any case, were already focused on the night race.

The evening regatta
From 5:30 PM onward, the crowd slowly began to fill the Audace pier, one of Trieste’s most important and famous. They weren’t just there to admire the sunset, but also to enjoy one of the most exciting events of the entire Barcolana: the evening regatta of the Este 24 category, in which the Swiss boat from the Circolo Velico Lago di Lugano also participated.
Seeing the individual boats glide past just inches from the pier, their hulls and sails silhouetted against the sunset, will surely remain in the collective memory as one of the most iconic moments of the Barcolana. And as often happens with most noteworthy events, this one too was greeted by one of the most beautiful and evocative natural phenomena: the sunset over the sea. Once again, nature’s ritual played a part.
